Nielsen Music and Billboard have revealed the actual numbers of sales and streamings in US’s music industry in 2018, which ran from December 29, 2017 through January 3, 2019. Here is how much the artist sold in pure album sales:

TOP SELLING ALBUMS OF 2018 IN U.S.

  1. Soundtrack, “The Greatest Showman” – 1,491,000 copies.
  2. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper – “A Star Is Born (Soundtrack)” – 704,000 copies.
  3. Eminem – “Kamikaze” – 493,000 copies.
  4. Travis Scott, Astroworld 464,000.
  5. Jason Aldean, Rearview Town 463,000.

Assuming that the numbers show until January 3, “Kamikaze” should have sold more than 500,000 copies by now, which is huge accolade in the era of streaming. Just for the comparison, let’s take Drake’s “Scorpion” album that is 3 times platinum in U.S., meaning it has sold over 3 million album-equivalent units but only 310,000 comes from pure album sales, the rest comes from streamings.
