On this day, exactly 15 years ago (October 29, 2002), Eminem released 8 Mile: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture, the official soundtrack to his semi-biographical movie 8 Mile. It also spawned a follow up soundtrack, More Music from 8 Mile, consisting of songs that appear in the film.


The album debuted at #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Albums Chart that year with over 702,000 copies sold in the 1st week and 510,000 sold in the 2nd week, also finishing the year as the 5th best-selling album of 2002 with US sales of over 3.4 million. As of 2017, it has sold over 5 million copies in the U.S. The album also debuted into the top of the charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Poland and Greece. As of 2017, the album has sold over 11 million copies worldwide.


8 Mile OST is certified 5x Platinum in Canada, 4x Platinum in the United States, Australia and New Zealand, 2x Platinum in the United Kingdom, 1x Platinum in Denmark, France, Greece, Spain and Switzerland. It is certified Gold in Belgium, Finland, Hungary, Netherlands and Sweden.
