It is — at Barn Town Brewing in West Des Moines. Pete Faber, owner of Barn Town Brewing, told the Register on Friday that the brewery “flew through” its first shandy last month, but the beer’s name lacked creativity.
“We just named it ‘shandy’ to start out with,” Faber said.
During the re-brewing process for a second batch, Faber said kitchen staff was listening to music at the time when rapper Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” song hit the airwaves.
That’s when the light bulb flickered in Faber’s mind. The Real Slim Shandy — a lemony, wheat beer coming in at 4.3 percent alcohol-by-volume — was christened and it’s available now on draft.
“It was at the right time and at the right place,” Faber said.
Fabers added that Barn Town Brewing is currently in the process of building its outdoor patio, and that more some summer beers are on the way.
