“Southpawer” (also known as SP) is a Georgia-based website company that provides news, unknown facts and rare materials about Eminem and Shady Records. The Southpawer website was launched on May 1, 2015 by Medgari Remy Gelenidze (CEO) along with co-founder and SP Editor Shailesh Chilkoti and Ana Gelenidze.
On December 13, 2010, DreamWorks acquired the script, with Eminem eyed to play the leading role in the boxing movie, Southpaw. Remy had an idea to create the Facebook page before the release of the movie, thinking the company would have bought his page after releasing Southpaw: “I created the Southpaw Movie Facebook page in 2010. I was sharing every single news about the movie so I could earn some ‘likes.’ But in 2012, when Eminem refused to have role in the movie I started sharing the news about Eminem and his record label Shady Records. I was huge Eminem supporter and it was fun for me. In 2015 Eminem provided soundtracks album for the movie. To be honest, I didn’t want to sell my page anymore because the page was well-respected and had already had huge fanbase. That was the moment when the idea of creating the website came to my mind. I changed the name of the page and called it Southpawer (a person who supports Eminem’s Shady Records) and the rest is history.” says Remy in the interview of one of Georgia’s magazine.
Currently, Remy, 23, reads lectures in Mathematics at The University of Georgia (UG) and studies on Masters Degree on the field of Applied Mathematics. Shailesh Chilkoti, 24, is currently a Civil Site Engineer from India and supports Shady Records since 2003. Anna Gelenidze, 19, studies business administration at the Agricultural University of Georgia.
On May 1, 2015 the Southpawer website went online. It was fast growing community and Remy could not mange to have control on everything. This is when Shailesh Chilkoti showed up. By that time, Shailesh was quite well known Shady Records supporter on forums, had one of the biggest Eminem pages on Facebook (Shady Fan Blog) and instantly agreed to build the community with Remy.
In the first three months, Southpawer reached 100,000 visitors on website. “This is absolutely ridiculous number. We have not even dreamed to have such number of visitors.” says Shailesh. Southpwer finished 2015 year with approximately 1.5 million page views and 500,000 visitors.
In 2016, the website went down due to the excessive number of visitors. The website needed to change its server. Remy and Shailesh teamed up with Russian-based Shady Records’ fanbase called EminemPro, run by Igor Basenko, who provided strong server for website. In exchange, Southpawer now provides the English version of their iOS and Android apps for Eminem news. “With EminemPRO we have great plans in future. Fans will be surprised.” says Remy.
The same year Remy and Shailesh made an agreement with biggest Eminem fanpage on Facebook, “Eminem Forever Blog” who greatly helped the community to rise. Southpawer now provides news for 5 Facebook pages with 2 million likes in total, including “Hi My Name Is” and “Eminem TV.”
Southpawer website currently has 10 million page views and more than 4 million unique visitors. Averagely, 20,000 people visit Southpawer every day. The official YouTube channel has 4.5 million views and 4,500 subscribers.
