Today, 6 Years Ago, Eminem Released “Love The Way You Lie”



On this day, 6 years ago (August 9, 2010), Eminem released “Love The Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna, off Recovery. 

This track is Eminem’s biggest-selling single ever, with over 6.8 million copies sold in the US alone and was certified diamond by RIAA, selling more than 11 Million copies worldwide. Eminem became the first artist to receive two RIAA Digital Single Diamond Awards (including Not Afraid). The track also went 10x Platinum (Diamond) in Australia, and was the UK’s and Australias best-selling song for 2010.

LTWYL entered the United States’ Billboard Hot 100 at number two in the issue dated July 10, 2010. The single debuted at number one on the US Digital Songs after selling 338,000 digital copies in its first week. From July 31 to September 11, 2010, it had a seven-week run at the top of the Hot 100.

The song peaked at #1 in 42 different countries including United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and South Korea.

“Love the Way You Lie” ranked in various best-of-2010 lists. TIME placed it at number five on thier top-ten list. AOL Radio considered the song the best of 2010 hip hop music, regarding Eminem as imaginative and passionate. It ranked ninth on MTV News’ top-twenty-five list. The New York Post placed the song at second place on their “top 210 songs from 2010.” Complex magazine ranked it at number 100 on their “100 Best Eminem Songs” list, calling it a love song and praising Rihanna’s vocals as beautiful.

Love The Way You Lie received nominations at Teen Choice Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, Soul Train Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Barbados Music Awards, NRJ Music Awards, Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, MuchMusic Video Awards, Detroit Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. 

The video clip broke what was a YouTube record at the time of its release for the most hits in one day, with 6.6 million and as of July 2016, the video is the site’s 24th most viewed video with more than 1.1 billion views.
