On This Day, Exactly 16 Years Ago, Dr Dre Released “2001” | See Accolades


On this day, exactly 16 years ago, (Nov 16, 1999) Dr. Dre released his second solo studio album 2001 featuring guest appearances from Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Kurupt, Xzibit, The D.O.C. and Hittman.

The album debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 516,000 copies. It also entered at number one on Billboard‍ ’​s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. As of today, 2001 has sold over 7.7 Million copies in US and 1.2 Million in UK.

It’s second single, Forgot About Dre featuring Eminem, earned Dr Dre Grammy award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Rap Video at MTV Video Music Awards 

The album received generally mixed reviews because of the gangster-themed lyrics.
