Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP Turns 15


On this day, exactly 15 years ago (May 22, 2000) Eminem released the masterpiece, The Marshall Mathers LP, executively produced by Dr Dre. It includes a classic singles like ‘Stan’ featuring Dido, The Way I Am and The Real Slim Shady. The album sold close to 1.8 Million copies in the United States, becoming the fastest selling studio album by any solo artist in the history of American music. By the end of 2000, The Marshall Mathers LP had become highest selling rap album of the year with almost 8 million copies sold in US. The album debuted at number one in more than 25 counties, including United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. To date, this classic has sold more than 11 million copies in US and more than 32 million copies worldwide.

The Marshall Mathers LP received positive reviews from critics. It has average score of 78 out of 100. Vibe Magazine, Village Voice and All Music evaluated the album with 100 points out 100. Slant Magazine gave it the lowest score of 30 out of 100.

MMLP won a lot of awards including ‘Best Rap Album’ at the Grammy Awards and was nominated for ‘Album Of The Year’Rolling Stone, Time, Complex, XXL and many other big magazines included The Marshall Mathers LP in their list of Greatest Albums Of All Time.

Eminem and Elton John performed the third single of the album ‘Stan’ at the 2001 Grammy Awards making in one of the best performances it one of the greatest performances in the history of Grammy Awards.
